ALGIERS -- Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune began self-imposed lockdown on Saturday after contacting senior officials who showed symptoms of COVID-19, according to a statement from the Presidency.

Tebboune decided to go into lockdown for five days with the advice from the medical staff of the presidency, the statement said. (Algeria-COVID19-President's Lockdown)

TEHRAN -- The total number of COVID-19 infections confirmed in Iran reached 652,705 on Saturday, after an overnight registration of 5,814 new cases, according to the Ministry of Health and Medical Education.

Sima Sadat Lari, spokeswoman for the ministry, said during her daily briefing that 335 new lives were lost in the coronavirus epidemic, taking the total death toll to 32,320. (Iran-COVID19)

ISTANBUL -- Ekrem Imamoglu, mayor of Turkey's largest city Istanbul, said on Saturday that he was hospitalized after testing positive for COVID-19.

TRIPOLI -- The UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) on Saturday welcomed the decision of Libya's National Oil Corporation (NOC) to lift the state of force majeure on two of the country's largest oil ports.

"UNSMIL welcomes the National Oil Corporation's announcement of ... lifting force majeure on Sidra and Ras Lanouf ports.
