WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Vice President Mike Pence's Chief of Staff Marc Short is the latest White House official to be diagnosed with Covid-19.

The revelation came in the form of a statement from the vice president's office on Saturday.

"Today, Marc Short (pictured), chief of staff to the vice president, tested positive for COVID-19, began quarantine and assisting in the contact tracing process," Devin O'Malley said Saturday.

Pence, who has spent considerable time with his chief aide over the past week was also tested but the test was negative. A similar result followed the testing of his wife Karen.

Vice President Pence campaigned in Florida on Saturday, ahead of a rally in North Carolina on Sunday.

President Donald Trump was also in Florida on Saturday. On returning to the White House on Saturday night he was asked about Mr Pence's chief of staff's diagnosis.

"I did hear about it just now. I think he's quarantining. I did hear about that. He's going to be fine. But he's quarantining," he said.

Short returned to the Trump administration in February last year. He previously served as President Trump's White House legislative affairs director but stepped down in 2018.

His office is in the West Wing.
