ANKARA, April 7 (Xinhua) -- A Turkish Air Force aerobatic aircraft crashed during training in central Konya province of Turkey on Wednesday, killing its pilot, the country's defense ministry said.

"An NF-5 aircraft belonging to our Air Force, which was on a training flight in Konya, suffered an accident at 14:15 (1115 GMT) for an unknown reason," the ministry said on Twitter.

The aircraft belonged to Turkish Stars, an aerobatic demonstration team of the Turkish Air Force, said the ministry, noting that an investigation has been launched into the accident.

The search and rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the site in the Fevzi Cakmak neighborhood in Karatay district, the semi-official Anadolu Agency reported.
