ANKARA, April 7 (Xinhua) -- Turkey on Wednesday reported its largest single-day increase in infections with 54,740 new COVID-19 cases, according to its health ministry.

Among the new cases are 2,203 symptomatic patients, and the caseload in the country has reached 3,633,925.

The death toll from the virus in Turkey rose by 276 to 32,943, while the total recoveries climbed to 3,194,978 after 35,503 more cases recovered in the last 24 hours.

The rate of pneumonia in COVID-19 patients stands at 3.1 percent and the number of seriously ill patients is 2,604 in the country, said the ministry.

A total of 302,108 tests were conducted over the past day, with the overall number of tests in Turkey reaching 40,385,250.

Turkey reported its first COVID-19 case on March 11, 2020.
