TEHRAN -- Iran on Thursday reported 12,398 new COVID-19 cases, taking the country's total infections to 3,003,112.

The pandemic has so far claimed 81,672 lives in Iran, up by 153 in the past 24 hours, the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education said. (Iran-COVID19)


ISTANBUL -- Turkish cleaning crews have collected nearly 400 cubic meters of marine mucilage, also known as "sea snot," from the Marmara Sea during the last two days, the state-run Anadolu agency reported Thursday.

The cleaning activities were conducted in 31 locations on the sea in several provinces along the Marmara Sea, including Istanbul, Bursa, Canakkale, Kocaeli, and Tekirdag, according to Anadolu. (Turkey-Mucilage-Cleaning)


JERUSALEM -- The first public test drive of Tel Aviv's light rail in Israel was carried out on Thursday, Israeli state-owned company NTA Metropolitan Mass Transit System said.

The drive was conducted with an electric train developed and manufactured by the Chinese company CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles Co., which won an Israeli government tender for supplying the carriages. (Israel-China-Electric Train-Light Rail)


ANKARA -- Turkey will start on Friday to vaccinate the catering sector, along with the barbers and hairdressers, against the COVID-19 as part of its ongoing nationwide vaccination campaign, Turkey's Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said Thursday.

"The food production, distribution sector and cafe, restaurant employees will also be included in the program as of tomorrow. As part of the vaccination program, barbers and hairdressers are also to be vaccinated," Koca tweeted. (Turkey-COVID19-Vaccination)
