ISTANBUL, July 28 (Xinhua) -- A massive forest fire erupted on Wednesday in the Mediterranean Turkish resort town of Manavgat, affecting at least 53 people.
Agriculture and Forestry Minister Bekir Pakdemirli said the fire began at four different points in the Manavgat district of Antalya Province, and the effort to extinguish the fire is going on.
Authorities ordered residents in four neighborhoods to evacuate their homes as flames threaten the residential areas, Pakdemirli told reporters on the scene.
So far, 53 citizens have been affected by smoke exposure, he noted.
"The wind condition and the low humidity cause the fire to grow," the minister said.
