ISTANBUL, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- Flights have been gradually resumed on Wednesday at Istanbul Airport after two days of suspension because of a heavy snowstorm.
The airport said on Twitter that snow accumulation, measuring 41 cm on the apron, runway, and taxiway, has been cleared, and 681 "air traffic movements" are planned for Wednesday.
The two runways are already open, and the third one will be operational within the day, it added.
Flights were suspended on Monday at the airport for safety reasons when a strong snowstorm hit Istanbul, leaving thousands of people stranded at the terminal.
Highways and roads across the city of over 16 million were also blocked because of the blizzard.
