ISTANBUL, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- Turkish police on Monday seized bomb-making materials believed to be used by the Islamic State (IS) group in the western Izmir province, local media reported.

The raid was carried out in the Bornova district as part of an investigation by the Izmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against suspected IS members.

Police found petrol, electric capsules, gel dynamite, screws, and a metal pipe for making bombs, the Hurriyet newspaper reported. Five suspects with links to IS were also arrested in the operation.

The IS group, which the Turkish government designates as a terrorist organization, has carried out a series of deadly attacks in Türkiye since 2015. Turkish counter-terrorism units, in response, have been conducting operations against the group's members in the country.
