KABUL, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- The Afghan caretaker government's Ministry of Mines and Petroleum has signed a contract worth 6.2 million U.S. dollars for marble mining in southern Kandahar province, the ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.
A contract has been inked with a Turkish company for a period of 30 years, covering an area of 3 km in the Dara Noor region, Shahwali Koot district of the province, the statement added.
At the signing ceremony, Mullah Hedayatullah Badri, acting minister of mines and petroleum, said the contract would create employment opportunities for hundreds of people, offer social services to the local community, and establish medical and educational facilities.
Since taking power in August 2021, the Afghan caretaker government has continually urged both local and international organizations to invest in the country, aiming to strengthen the economy and create job opportunities.
