Turkey, Gulf states key to Syrias reconstruction-US official

US Treasury Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence John K. Hurleyaffirmed on Friday that Washington backs Turkey and Gulf-led efforts torebuild post-war Syria, restore financial infrastructure, lift sanctions and foster peace and prosperity.

Speaking to Anadolu news Agency upon his arrival to Ankara, Hurley said "Syria presents a significant opportunity for commercial engagement. If we can encourage investment and help revitalize its economy, we can foster meaningful prospects for peace in the region.

On U.S.-Turkey relations, Hurley emphasized that his visit underscores the strategic importance Washington places on its partnership with Ankara and its shared commitments within the NATO alliance.

In a pivotal policy shift, President Donald Trump signed an executive order last July lifting U.S. sanctions on Syria. This move was followed by similar announcements from several European nations, signaling a broader international willingness to reengage with Syrias economic recovery.
