6 killed, 3 injured in traffic accident in Trkiy's Ankara province

ANKARA, March 28 (Xinhua) -- Six people were killed and three others injured on Friday in a head-on collision between two cars in the Haymana district of Ankara Province, local Ihlas News Agency reported.

The accident occurred in the Karahoca area, the report said. Emergency teams, including police, gendarmerie, medical personnel, and firefighters, were dispatched to the scene.

Among the dead were a 6-year-old child and a 9-month-old baby. Authorities have identified all victims. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals.

Traffic accidents have claimed 2,713 lives across Trkiye in 2024, according to the General Directorate of Security. The highest number of accidents occurred in Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir, with Istanbul alone recording 97,354 incidents.

Speeding was identified as the leading cause of fatal crashes last year.
