BELGRADE, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and other top officials condemned Trkiye's delivery of thousands of kamikaze drones to Kosovo on Wednesday, calling it a grave violation of international law.
Vucic said he was "appalled" by Trkiye's behavior, accusing Ankara of destabilizing the Western Balkans and "dreaming of restoring the Ottoman Empire."
"It is now completely clear that Trkiye does not want stability in the Western Balkans and is once again dreaming of restoring the Ottoman Empire. Serbia is a small country, but we understand their real intentions," Vucic wrote on social media.
Earlier in the day, the director of the Serbian government's Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Petar Petkovic, said Trkiye had "directly violated" Resolution 1244 by arming Pristina with more than 1,000 Skydagger combat drones.
In a press release issued by the "Government of Kosovo," acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti announced the arrival at Pristina's "Adem Jashari" Airport of several containers with "thousands of Skydagger FPV kamikaze drones," supplied by Turkish defense company Baykar.
Kosovo, Serbia's southern province, unilaterally declared independence in 2008, a move Belgrade rejects as illegal. Under UN Security Council Resolution 1244, adopted in 1999, the territory remains under temporary UN civilian and NATO-led military administration, with KFOR recognized as the only authorized armed force.
