PanARMENIAN.Net - Starting in 2026, Turkish Airlines plans to operate regular flights from Istanbul to Yerevan.
The airline will launch daily flights between Istanbul and Yerevan beginning March 11, 2026, according to Serdar Klc, Turkey's special envoy for normalization talks with Armenia, as reported by Sputnik Armenia.
Earlier reports indicated that the Turkish national carrier was planning to establish a route to Yerevan, a development confirmed by Armenian Parliament Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Sargis Khandanyan, though the exact start date was previously unknown.
Armenia and Turkey have no diplomatic relations, and Ankara has kept the land border closed since 1993.
Yerevan and Ankara declared in December 2021 their readiness to take practical steps toward normalization. Both sides appointed special envoys: Turkey named its former ambassador to Washington, Serdar Klc, and Armenia appointed Ruben Rubinyan, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly. In July 2022, the two sides agreed in Vienna to open the border to third-country nationals and begin direct cargo transportation, but these agreements have yet to be implemented.
In September 2025, Klc visited Armenia. According to the Armenian Foreign Ministry, the sides discussed progress on implementing the July 2022 agreements and agreed to accelerate the process.
