PanARMENIAN.Net - Authorities in Istanbul have once again denied permission to hold an event commemorating the victims of the Armenian Genocide on April 24.
The "April 24 Commemoration Platform" applied to the governor's office for permission to hold a gathering on April 24 at 19:00 in Kadky, in front of the Sreyya Opera House, but the request was rejected, Armenpress reported, citing Agos.
In a statement, the platform noted that similar applications have been consistently rejected in recent years, whereas before the pandemic such commemorative events were regularly held in various cities, particularly in Istanbul.
The organizers stated that holding such events is a fundamental democratic right and called for the decision to be reconsidered. They also emphasized that the gatherings aim to pay tribute to the victims of 1915, as well as to promote public memory and encourage confronting the past.
