Iranian FM to visit Trkiye amid escalating tensions between U.S., Iran

ANKARA, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi is due to pay a visit to Trkiye on Friday amid escalating tensions between Iran and the United States, the semi-official Anadolu Agency reported Thursday.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is expected to emphasize that Trkiye is closely following recent developments in Iran and to underline that Iran's security, peace and stability are of great importance to Ankara, said the report, quoting Turkish Foreign Ministry sources.

He is set to reiterate Trkiye's opposition to any military intervention against Iran and warn of the regional and global risks that such a step could entail, it said.

Fidan would also convey Trkiye's readiness to contribute to resolving current tensions through dialogue, to support reaching a peaceful solution to Iran's nuclear program as soon as possible, and to offer assistance if needed, it added.

U.S. President Donald Trump said Wednesday that a "massive armada," headed by the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln, is heading toward Iran, and warned that "time is running out" for Tehran to make a deal with the United States.
