PanARMENIAN.Net - U.S. Ambassador to Turkey Tom Barrack has welcomed recent steps by Turkey and Armenia aimed at restoring connections between their economies and peoples, he wrote on X.
Barrack shared a statement by Turkey's Foreign Ministry regarding the Armenia-Turkey joint working group meeting, according to 1lurer.am .
"This day marks an important milestone in regional connectivity. Armenian and Turkish officials met in the Turkish city of Kars to announce the establishment of a joint working group for the reconstruction of the Kars-Gyumri railway. It was a vital trade and transit link that connected the region for more than a century. The last train crossed the Turkey-Armenia border in July 1993," the diplomat wrote.
He added that the progress reflects the vision promoted by TRIPP and the historic peace summit held at the White House on August 8, organized by U.S. President Donald Trump.
"I welcome the recent steps by Turkey and Armenia to restore connections between their economies and peoples. A new South Caucasus is emerging - interconnected and peaceful - aligned with President Trump's commitment to stability and prosperity in the region," Ambassador Barrack added.
As part of agreements reached within the Armenia-Turkey normalization process, a joint working group meeting on the restoration and operation of the Gyumri-Kars railway was held in Kars on April 28.
