Bulgarian weightlifting star Karlos Nasar once again confirmed his dominance on the European stage, winning his fourth European title at the championship in Batumi, Georgia. Competing in the men's 94 kg category, Nasar left no doubt about his superiority, taking gold in both movements and finishing first in the overall standings.
The Olympic champion completed the competition with a total of 386 kilograms in the combined event, after lifting 176 kg in the snatch and 210 kg in the clean and jerk. His result placed him comfortably ahead of the rest of the field and secured another major title in his already remarkable career.
Nasar took the lead after the snatch, where he successfully lifted 176 kilograms. He first opened with 170 kg and then secured gold with his successful attempt at 176 kg. In his final attempt, he attacked 183 kilograms in pursuit of a new world record, but the lift was unsuccessful.
His closest rival in that movement was Armenian weightlifter Ara Aghanyan, who completed all three of his attempts successfully at 167, 172 and 175 kilograms. Third in the snatch was Turkey's Hakan Sukru Kurnaz with 166 kg, achieved on his final attempt after two failed lifts.
In the clean and jerk, Nasar opened with 210 kilograms. He initially lifted the weight on his first attempt, but after review, the judges ruled that the movement was not valid. On his second try at the same weight, however, he completed it successfully and stayed firmly in control of the competition.
Aghanyan, who had already managed 200 and 206 kilograms, attempted 212 kg in an effort to challenge for the title, but failed to complete the lift. That result mathematically guaranteed Nasar the overall gold medal.
For his final attempt of the evening, the Bulgarian went for 223 kilograms, aiming for a world record in the total, but he was unable to lift it.
The silver medal in the combined ranking went toAghanyan with 381 kg (175 + 206), while the bronze was claimed by French lifter Romain Imadouchene with 370 kg (163 + 207).
In the separate disciplines, Nasar also topped both standings. He won the snatch with 176 kg and the clean and jerk with 210 kg, completing another flawless European campaign and adding a fourth continental crown to his collection.
