PanARMENIAN.Net - Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz has arrived in Yerevan, where he was welcomed by National Assembly Vice Speaker Ruben Rubinyan, Panorama.am reports.
The Turkish vice president is participating in the 8th summit of the European Political Community (EPC).
Earlier, it was reported that the Armenian side had sent an official invitation to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to attend the EPC summit, but it was decided that the vice president would travel to Yerevan instead.
Following Turkish President Abdullah Gul's visit in 2008, Yilmaz is the highest-ranking Turkish official to visit Armenia.
Representatives from Turkey and Azerbaijan have also confirmed participation in the Foreign Ministry's annual Yerevan Dialogue diplomatic forum, scheduled for May 5-6.
A panel discussion dedicated to peace in the South Caucasus will include representatives involved in the Armenia-Turkey normalization process-Ruben Rubinyan and Serdar Kilic, RFE/RL reports.
An Azerbaijani speaker, Rusif Huseynov, head of the Topchubashov Center, will also take part in the discussion. He has previously visited Yerevan civil society exchange visits.
Other Turkish and Azerbaijani experts have confirmed their participation in the forum. Merve Kavakci, Deputy Secretary General of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation, will also travel to Yerevan from Turkey.
On May 4, Yerevan hosted the 8th summit of the European Political Community, to be followed on May 5 by the first Armenia-European Union summit. Around 50 high-level delegations arrived in Armenia, including European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. French President Emmanuel Macron also arrived in Yerevan, while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited Armenia for the first time.
