Trkiye detains 324 IS suspects in massive operation

ISTANBUL, May 13 (Xinhua) -- Turkish authorities detained 324 suspects across 47 provinces over alleged links to the Islamic State (IS) terror group, the country's Interior Ministry announced Wednesday.

The large-scale operations were conducted by provincial police counter-terrorism units, in coordination with the General Directorate of Security's Intelligence and Counter-Terrorism departments, the National Intelligence Organization, and Chief Public Prosecutor's offices.

Detainees include people wanted under existing arrest warrants and those suspected of funding and providing logistics support to IS, the ministry said, noting the operations are part of continuous efforts to safeguard the country's peace and unity.

Trkiye has suffered IS attacks over the past decade. In response, its security forces have conducted frequent nationwide sweeps to dismantle the group's domestic cells and financial networks. Ankara officially designated IS as a terrorist organization in 2013.
