PanARMENIAN.Net - The Akhalkalaki-Kars railway has reopened, and Armenia is awaiting the opening of borders with Turkey and Azerbaijan, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said during a campaign event in Kotayk Province.

He spoke about the economic consequences of transport restrictions, noting that they significantly affect the cost of goods, Factor.am reported.

According to Pashinyan, Turkish goods had reached Armenia for years through intermediary countries, increasing transportation and administrative costs. He said that around 10 days ago, the ban on exports from Turkey to Armenia and from Armenia to Turkey was lifted, which, in his view, creates new economic opportunities.

He also said that major infrastructure projects are being implemented in Armenia, particularly in Syunik, which he said should help overcome the country's blockade and open regional connections.

According to the prime minister, the Agarak-Kajaran section of the North-South highway has now been built, including plans for a 720-meter bridge. He also noted that the Agarak customs checkpoint on the Iranian border has been constructed and that the TRIPP project will soon begin as well.

Pashinyan said the project would finally and irreversibly overcome Armenia's blockade and transform the country from a conflict deadlock into a "crossroads of peace."

He stressed that the TRIPP project would be implemented on the basis of Armenia's territorial integrity, sovereignty and jurisdiction.

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio signed several documents at Yerevan's Zvartnots Airport. A framework agreement on strategic cooperation regarding the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity project between Armenia and the United States was initialed, and a comprehensive strategic partnership charter between Armenia and the United States was also signed.
