PanARMENIAN.Net - They said the approach contradicts rule-of-law principles.

Armenians in Tbilisi were not allowed to hold a protest on April 24 near the Turkish embassy.

Community board member Zhaneta Baghdasaryan said applications had been submitted in advance to the city hall and the Interior Ministry, but permission was denied specifically for holding the event at that location, Echo of the Caucasus reports.

Baghdasaryan explained that the refusal cited legal requirements to balance freedom of assembly with public safety and the rights of others, noting that a rally at that site could violate those conditions. Authorities offered to change the venue or time.

However, the community rejected that option, stressing that it was important for them to hold the protest specifically near the Turkish embassy.

"The Armenian community refuses to hold the event at another location; we do not consider any other address besides the area of the Turkish embassy. Therefore, we are not planning any event," Baghdasaryan said.

The community also stated that such an approach does not comply with the principles of a rule-of-law state and could undermine trust in public institutions. They emphasized that all groups in society, including national minorities, should have the opportunity to freely express their views.

It was also noted that the planned action aimed to peacefully preserve remembrance, honor the victims, and call for recognition of the Armenian Genocide.

Earlier, Georgia's Interior Ministry approved another initiative by the community, a march from Isani metro station to the courtyard of Surb Ejmiatsin Church in Avlabari.

Georgia has not officially recognized the Armenian Genocide.
