ANKARA, Feb. 1 (Xinhua) -- Seven people were killed and five others injured after two cars collided on the Antalya-Isparta highway in Trkiye's southwestern province of Burdur on Sunday, local authorities said.

Emergency teams, including health workers, rescue units and traffic police, were dispatched to the scene after the accident, the Burdur Governor's Office said in a statement.

"Five injured citizens were transferred to nearby hospitals," it said, adding that the road has been reopened to traffic in a controlled manner.

The identities of the drivers have not yet been confirmed.

Traffic accidents have claimed 2,713 lives across Trkiye in 2025, according to the General Directorate of Security. The highest number of accidents occurred in Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir, with Istanbul alone recording 97,354 incidents.

Speeding was the leading cause of fatal crashes in Trkiye last year.
